We are off to a great start in kindergarten! We are learning about our classroom, about each other, and about how to be a cooperative learning community. Enjoy these pictures from our first few days!
Today we read The Big Orange Splot. In this book, all of the houses on Mr. Plumbean's street are exactly the same. Slowly, each person on the street paints their house, making them all extremely colorful and unique. We discussed how each of the children in KG are different and unique. We all have different goals and need different things to help us succeed. Each student identified his/her goal (or "hope & dream") for kindergarten. Goals included learning to read, making new friends, getting better at counting, and learning new games in PE.
We have had a wonderful start to kindergarten in KG! Ms. Dobrotka (our classroom paraprofessional) and I are really enjoying getting to know all twenty KG students. We have been busy doing lots of fun activities and learning all about how to work together as a community in our classroom. Some highlights include:
- Ate lunch in the cafeteria
- Went to music, art and PE classes
- Met Profe Vergara and Chusco during Spanish
- Built with Legos
- Played with classmates in the dramatic play center
- Did birthday math
- Discussed science and scientists
- Learned about our classroom and how to take care of it
- Had morning meeting (every day!)
- Celebrated a birthday!
- Drew self-portraits
Parents, please be sure to mark your calendars for two important events.
Friday, September 23 - Kindergarten field trip to Honey Pot Hill Orchards!
We will be sending home a permission slip and more information about this trip next week. We love having lots of chaperones, so if you want to join us, please be sure you have a CORI form on file with the office.
Wednesday, September 28 - Back to School Parent Open House, 8:15 - 9:00 a.m.
I look forward to sharing more about Baker kindergarten and KG with you at this time!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Today, KGP students listened to the book, The Big Orange Splot. We discussed how just like the houses are different and unique on Mr. Plumbean's street, so are we. Students engaged in a discussion about how each of us have different things we are working on and different goals for kindergarten. Each student determined their "hope" for their year in kindergarten.
KGP students were introduced to their kindergarten journals today. Journals are a long standing Baker tradition, and many former students often tell us about how they love to look through their own journal occasionally! Almost every morning, KGP students will begin their school day by drawing and writing in their journal. We encourage them to add letters, words, and eventually sentences to describe their drawings. All of the students were motivated to do their best work!
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning (October 10th) at the Baker kindergarten curriculum presentation. Please drop your child off by 7:55am and proceed to the cafeteria for a brief presentation by the administrative staff. Shortly thereafter, please proceed to the KG classroom, as I will begin my presentation at 8:15am.
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow and sharing important information about your child's year ahead in kindergarten!
What a wonderful first week we have had in KG! All 22 students came together for the first time on Monday. We have spent time learning new routines, making new friends, and laying the foundation for a strong, caring classroom community.
Here are some Week 1 highlights:
Have a great weekend!
Our first two days of kindergarten were fabulous! All of the students transitioned easily into the classroom with a smile, positive attitude, and eagerness to learn. Here are some highlights of our first day(s):
After we read Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, KG students shared what they did to get ready for kindergarten.
Overall, we had a fabulous start, and I can't wait for all there is to come!
Thank you to all the parents who have completed the Student Information form. If you have not done so yet, please complete it ASAP. I would like to be able to send a playmate list home by the end of the week. Thank you!!!
It was so wonderful to meet so many new students and their families at the Sneak Peek today. I can already tell what a fabulous group of students I have! You should have received the following information from me today:
If you were unable to visit today, this information will be sent home in your child's home/school folder on his/her first day of school.
Please let me know if you have any questions that I can answer!
