A real bonus to the nice, warm weather is being able to eat our snacks outside, followed by some extra time to run around and burn off some energy. We had a great time on the big playground today!
We are fully engaged in a unit on environmental awareness. This is a high interest topic that is relevant to children growing up in this century. This unit provides children with information about the natural world and ways in which we can all improve the world in which we live. We are also addressing the effects of human action upon the environment.
Students spent one school day collecting their own trash. We were all surprised to see just how much trash we create in one day. As a class, we sorted our garbage into things that had to be thrown out, and things we could recycle.
Next, we discussed how we could reduce the amount of trash we create. We read a book that taught us about landfills. All of the students agreed; we need to create less trash before we run out of room to put it!
